All About Pumpkins

Picking the perfect pumpkin is a great activity for families.  It's a treasure hunt and you get the opportunity to crunch over acres of rustling pumpkin vines and soft earth.  Granny Mae's grows nearly one hundred different varieties of pumpkins and gourds in four different fields.  If you so choose, we also have hundreds of pumpkins already picked in our display areas.

• For best results, choose a pumpkin that has no soft spots.
• Even if you intend to remove the stem, it is best to purchase a pumpkin with its stem intact as the flesh is subject to quicker decay once the stem is broken. 
• The color should be dark and even, with no fungus.
• Select a pumpkin that is well balanced and will set up on its own.
• Never pick up a pumpkin by its stem.
• Enjoy the process and take lots of pictures.
